    Cretan savory - 'Thriba'

    • A beautiful aromatic shrub that is native to the mountains in Crete known as ‘thriba’ in Greek. 

     

    • Cretan savory ‘Thriba’ is not to be confused with ‘Throubi’ or summer savory which is another popular herb throughout Greece and the Mediterranean.

     

    • It is a hardy perennial which will bring character to your garden. It grows into a beautiful shrub that will burst with stunning pink blooms in summer, Great for attracting beneficial insects to the garden.
    • it is a fantastic addition in cooking it can be used either fresh or dried, Adding spicy flavour which can be described as half oregano and half thyme.

     

    • Because of its aroma and flavour it can be used in similar ways to oregano and thyme, bringing unique character to cooked dishes such as stews, soups and bakes and is a perfect addition to marinades and sauces.

     

    • Being from the mountains it likes free draining and alkeline soil, for best results plant in a sunny position where it can stay and grow big! Once established is very hardy and drought tolerant.
    • It can be planted in larger pots and containers as it will out grow them fast.
    • It is a slower growing dense bush that can grow up to 1.5metre tall and wide when fully mature.
    • Makes a beautiful addition for cottage, desert and rock garden landscapes with its evergreen leaves and showy pink flowers in summer.
